As proud Construct Innovate members, Amplitude Acoustics is delighted to share our collaboration on the recently published case study: Advancing Indoor Acoustic Quality Through Innovative Acoustic Metamaterial Solutions.

The project, funded through the Construct Innovate Seed Fund 2023, brings together experts from University College Dublin, the University of Galway, and Amplitude Acoustics. Led by Dr. Muhammad Gulzari, David Ramírez-Solana, Dr. Eoin King and Dr Emmet English, the initiative is pioneering the use of acoustic metamaterials as a sustainable, next-generation solution to modern noise challenges.
Tackling Today’s Acoustic Challenges
Traditional materials often struggle to manage the complexity of contemporary noise sources — from urban traffic to wind turbines and flight paths. This project is exploring how acoustic metamaterials can be engineered to deliver superior noise reduction while aligning with the sustainability goals of the built environment.
Early Achievements
The collaboration has already delivered exciting progress, including:
- Development of functional acoustic metamaterial prototypes
- Establishment of advanced experimental testing facilities
- Preparation for large-scale funding applications (Horizon Europe, EPA, Enterprise Ireland) to accelerate commercialization and scale
Bridging Research and Industry
Dr. Emmet English of Amplitude Acoustics commented:
“It’s a privilege to collaborate with such a talented team, combining academic insight with industry expertise to create practical solutions with real-world impact. This project positions acoustic innovation at the heart of sustainable construction.”
Looking Ahead
With prototypes in development and future funding opportunities in motion, the partnership is paving the way for scalable, impactful solutions that will help set new benchmarks in indoor acoustic quality.
